Kurt Cobain (Kurt Donald Cobain)
Kurt Cobain was born in Aberdeen, Washington on February 20th 1967. In 1985 he met Krist Novoselic with whom he would eventually form a band with Cobain on Guitar and Novoselic on bass. Their band went through a number of names before settling on Nirvana in 1988.
They released their first album 'Bleach' in 1989. But it was their second album 'Nevermind' that launched Nirvana and Kurt Cobain to Super Stardom.
'Nevermind' reached number 1 on the billboard charts early in 1992 buoyed in part by the popularity of the first single from 'Nevermind' entitled 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. The album's success made Nirvana the face of grunge rock whether they liked it or not. As the primary songwriter, guitarist and front man of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain received a lion's share of the attention.
Apparently, Cobain was no stranger to drugs, allegedly trying marijuana for the first time when he was 13 and trying heroin for the first time 6 years later. Reportedly, his drug use was (at least in part) to self-medicate stomach pains. Allegedly, by the end of 1990 he had become a full fledged heroin addict and suffered a heroin overdose in July of 1993 and an overdose of a combination of Rohypnol and Champagne in March of 1994.
Kurt Cobain married Courtney Love on February 24th 1992 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Apparently their relationship had begun in earnest a little less than a year before, and allegedly it was one in which they 'bonded through drug use.'
Kurt Cobain was found dead in his home on April 8th 1994, a shotgun pointed at his chin and a high concentration of Heroin and Valium in his body. The coroner's report estimated that he died on April 5th, 1994 and the cause was suicide by gunshot wound.
Considering Kurt Cobain's manner of death, this next photo of the members of Nirvana (Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic) is eerie.
