I wouldn't describe Billy's on Burnet as a dive bar, but it does have a kind of dive bar essence about it.  It's kind of small, nothing inside is new, nor is it decked out in hard woods.  It's sort of an average neighborhood bar, that's a little dark, but with a very good beer selection.  Their selection doesn't touch the Ginger Man, but it's very good, I mean seriously if you can't find a beer here that you like, you don't like beer.  They have selections from local breweries (quasi locals) like Live Oak and Real Ale as well as beers from as far away as Deschutes on Tap.  I didn't count the taps but there had to be at least 20 and that's not counting the macros like Bud Light, Coors Light e.t.c. which they had as well.  They also had beers in bottles, like Chimay Red, so you aren't limited to just ordering Draught beer.   Billy's doesn't have service per se, it's one of those places where you have to go up to the bar to order your food/drinks and they'll call you when it's ready.  (at least that's the way it was when I was there)  I don't mind that a bit and in fact I was pretty comfortable in the casual atmosphere.  The food was good, I guess you'd call it typical bar food but really it's a notch above things you'd receive in most of your big chain restaurants.  I'm a little worried about the parking situation, although I didn't have a problem parking, there were plenty of notices up inside the restaurant telling you where Not to park, so I'm guessing at times parking is an issue.  All in all though I must say, that if I lived in Austin, this may be my hang out bar, in other words this may be the bar that I would frequent the most.  It probably wouldn't be the place that I'd take visitors from out of State, but certainly would be the place that I seek out for a cold beer after a shitty day at work to shoot the bull with friends.
