Shiner Bock
|
Man, I feel bad about giving this beer a 6 because, technically, this was the beer that introduced me to beers that didn't taste like Bud, Miller and Coors. So, if it wasn't for Shiner Bock, I may have written off beer as something, I just didn't care for years ago. After first tasting it, I drank it exclusively for about a year, before deciding that maybe there were other beers out there that didn't taste like Bud, Miller and Coors too. Once I started buying other beers, I didn't try Shiner Bock again until about 10 years later, and wow, was I disappointed. I don't know whether the recipe has changed or just my palate and/or expectations, but now this Bock seems to have little taste at all, besides some bitterness. (Since my first review of this beer, the taste has improved dramatically; it has much more malt flavor with less harsh bitterness, which is the way I remembered it by the way. Perhaps I had a bad six pack or so or perhaps they were jacking with the recipe, at any rate, I've raised the rating by 1 to 6 but lately it's been better than that.)
