Oh my this American Black Ale has some delicious roasted malt up front that is followed by some balancing bitterness that leans towards sour as opposed to straight on bitter.  Very smooth.  Clown Shoes Lubrication has low carbonation and a mouth-feel that may be medium but somehow seems a bit fuller or maybe a bit velvety, creamy.  There seems to be a little chocolate and a little coffee flavor, plus the essence of grapefruit from the hops, but despite its complexity it remains very smooth and importantly for me, balanced as well.  I suppose one would have to consider this a strongly flavored beer, but between its balance and smoothness, it is a very approachable strongly flavored beer.  There seems to be a little lingering but mild bitterness however, this beer is fantastic.
