This American Double / Imperial Stout definitely has some chocolate flavor going on. In fact, I'd say there are two kinds of chocolate, the cocoa kind as well as chocolate malt. There is also a definite bitterness on the back-end. It seems to be a mix of burnt bitterness and hops. In addition to all that, there is the expected roasted malt flavor as well. Despite the rather strong flavors, it isn't relegated to sipper only status, although, I'm not sure I'd go so far to call it smooth; still it's not far off and I'm definitely not just taking sips of this, I'm full on drinking. Pretty good mix of complexity and drinkability, although it does skew towards the complex. The mouth-feel is medium skewing towards full while the carbonation is medium skewing light. I'm trying to find a fault to report in this brew, but I'm struggling to find one. It does seem that the bitterness kind of lingers around a bit on my tongue, especially the more I consume. In addition, as it warms, I'm picking up some alcohol. Seems a bit odd in such a full flavored beer, but I can't stress enough, that it is a very mild sensation. This is one of those beers that although I'm definitely giving it a 10, it's ultimately not something I think I'll be seeking out too often, if at all. So, I guess you could say, despite all its goodness, it's not quite my bag.
