Indian Wells Amnesia IPA
|
This American IPA was strangely hollow. As someone who isn't a serious hopophile, one would think that I would enjoy this beer's relative lack of bitterness, its lack of sourness, its lack of serious citrus or pine; however as it turns out, Amnesia's lack of 'In Your Face Hops' seems to leave a lack of flavor in general. Dare I say it's watery. The strange thing is you don't get a bunch of malt flavor either. Seriously, it must be the most lightly flavored IPA I've ever had. The good side of that is there aren't any off flavors and it isn't attacking your palate nor beating you down with bitterness. The bad side is that, ultimately, I don't think there is anything here for me to really hang my hat on. For instance, I find more malt flavor in your average Helles, more hops in your average American Pale Ale, so why exactly am I drinking this? It certainly has a better mouth-feel than your average American Macro Lager, but flavorwise, man, I hate to say this but it's debatable. Technically, sure Amnesia I.P.A. has more flavor than your average American Macro Lager, but the fact that I even had to pause a second to think about it, is not a good sign. |
