Maui Brewing Coconut Porter

Man I don't like this American Porter near as much as members of Beer Advocate do. For me it seemed heavy on the chocolate malt, and although I didn't mark it down for this, I didn't seem to pick up any of the 'coconut' mentioned in its name.  This beer was definitely on the dry side, which worked against it for me.  Also, although the mouth-feel was a solid medium, maybe even skewing full, the flavor seemed thin and simple by comparison.  This beer is a little bitter, it is most similar to that burnt bitterness you often get with roasted malts, but could be at least in part hop related.  Either way, I think I'd actually like it better with less bitterness.  Overall, for me, it's not smooth enough to be a 'session worthy' beer and not nearly complex enough to be a 'sipper'.

Full bodied, creamy and smooth. Burnt sweet flavor, just a hint of roasted malts. It's a mediocre porter... Highly drinkable, but nasty burnt flavor.
