Poperings Hommel Ale

aka 'Poperings Hommel Bier'

This Belgian IPA had a ton of head.  The mouth-feel was medium skewing full while the carbonation was lively.  The flavor was surprisingly muted.  A kind of Pilsener malt and hop flavor plus probably an equal amount of dryness.  Basically balanced and considering its strong nature (7.5% alcohol and an IPA) fairly mild.  I liked this beer, but I'm also a person who likes malt and hops more than dryness so to have dryness as prominent as it was, especially in a beer that ultimately leaned towards the subtle side was a bit disappointing.  I don't rate beers in respect to how they stay within their posted style, but that being said, I can't help but think that expectations can skew results one way or the other, and in this case, I saw Belgian IPA, but tasted something a little more akin, to my palate anyway, to Duvel.  So perhaps I'm under-rating this a bit, but honestly on this day, I didn't enjoy it any more than the rating I gave it.
