Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout
|
This Oatmeal Stout is very bloody good. So far (July 2012) I haven't had a better beer from Rogue Ales Brewery. The mouth-feel is full with some deceptive carbonation that seems light, then comes at you with an aggressive bite. The flavor is dark roasted malt, and it is smooth. There is burnt bitterness on the back end, but it doesn't get too bitter and I actually believe the carbonation helps to break up that back end bitterness. Basically balanced and full of flavor, yet remains smooth and fairly easy drinking. Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout is probably hoppier than it should be, and probably doesn't have as much malt in the front end as it should, but damn;... I'm digging it. In fact, if this were my home brew, I don't think I'd jack with the recipe one bit. (My mouth is watering just thinking how good this must be straight from the tap at the brewery.)
