This American IPA skews towards the subtle and light; considering it's made it Houston where the summers are hot and humid, that's probably a very good thing. The mouth-feel is medium skewing lighter while the carbonation is light. The flavor is hoppy, but definitely (for an American IPA) leans towards the subtler side in both flavor and bitterness. Hop flavor and hop bitterness appear to be about equal. Flavor is citrus-y hops punctuated with bitterness. Malt is also light, I want to say a light caramel malt; but hops definitely dominate. I could be wrong but I think that maybe the fact that I am in Texas and it is Summer and the fact that it is so bloody hot may be influencing my rating. It does seem to be perfectly suited for the summers in Texas; I'm thinking that serious hop heads may be disappointed in its more subtle and simple nature, but in the Texas heat I think this may be the right combo. I know I have many American IPAs rated higher, but right now, at this moment, I don't know if I would want any of them. (Although, looking at my highly rated American IPAs, there are a few of the lighter versions of the style, so perhaps I'm wrong.... or perhaps I always skew towards 'lighter' American IPAs.)
