Sam Adams Light
|
I'm normally not a fan of 'Light' beers so the strange thing here is that I really like Sam Adams Light more than Samuel Adams Boston Lager. I suppose the reason is for the most part it has the same flavors as Samuel Adams Boston Lager, but the finish is much less astringent/bitter. Overall Sam Adams Light is definitely on the subtle side, but it definitely has flavor, it's definitely beer flavor, it's pleasant flavor, so, I like it. Besides Samuel Adams Boston Lager, this beer also reminds me a bit of Newcastle Brown Ale, just thinner. Sam Adams Light is classified as a Light Lager at BeerAdvocate. (Which seems completely unfair to other 'Light Lagers' as I've never had a Light Lager that was really even close to being as good as Sam Adams Light.) That being said, Sam Adams Light has a light, but tasty, caramel malt flavor and a light balancing finish. Malt dominates and even after the finish, the slight flavor left on the tongue seems to be malt as opposed to hops. The mouth-feel is on the light side of medium with a medium carbonation level. It's super smooth so drinkability is high. Just for the record, including Sam Adams Light, I've reviewed 17 'Light Lagers' for beertripper.com so far and Sam Adams Light is clearly the best, and it's really not even close.
