Samuel Adams Scotch Ale
|
This Wee Heavy is heavy on the roasted malt. It almost tastes like a stout in that it is heavy on roasted malt and has a bitterness to it plus a sour finish, but I believe the bitterness here is not caused by hops, but rather by the roasted malt. It's actually quite good. For some reason I was half expecting a thin-ish beer reminiscent of how maybe a macro would make a 'Wee Heavy', but this has true flavor to it and a decent mouth-feel. I'd probably say it's a medium mouth-feel that skews full, but if someone else said full, I certainly wouldn't argue. The carbonation is medium, and maybe skewing high, but that's probably a good thing here to break up the bitter/sour finish. Strangely, I'd probably say this is rich but yet not complex. That may sound odd, but this has, the aforementioned roasted malt, some smokiness a definite malt presence, but not really any other say hoppy or spice flavors, not that it needs any. It's straight forward, flavorful and pretty bloody good. (I've never seen it in a six pack though, only in mix packs.)
