Samuel Adams Whitewater IPA
|
This American IPA really surprised me. First off, I've been very disappointed with wheat beers from Samuel Adams, secondly I'm not a big IPA guy; so putting together the two sounds like my version of crap. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by this concoction. The mouth-feel was actually the first thing that I noticed and enjoyed, it is different than the mouth-feel that normally accompanies beers from Samuel Adams and it was almost creamy, so nice one. Secondly, the flavor; it wasn't major-ly bitter, but a smooth sourness that was actually a bit reminiscent of say a Lemonade mixed with beer. I could see how hard core IPA loving hop heads might be a bit disappointed, but it was smooth, pleasantly sour and although it was a bit fruity, it wasn't so fruity that it turned me off. Sometimes it did have a bitter bite, like a lemon peel. But, overall I thought it was a nice, smooth, citrus-y and sour beer with a creamy mouth-feel. Might not quite fit the American IPA style, but a decent brew nevertheless that I'm very glad I tried.
