San Miguel Dark Lager
|
With memories of San Miguel Premium Lager still in my head, I didn't have high hopes for San Miguel Dark Lager. However, I found this Euro Dark Lager to be surprisingly pleasant. Don't get me wrong, it's not packed with the flavor of a Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale or anything, but it does have flavor and it is pleasant. This beer is lightly carbonated and has a medium to thin mouth-feel. The flavor is predominately dark malts and it does skew towards the subtle side, but I like that. Sure it's on the subtle side, but it's there and it's pleasant and it's smooth all the way with just enough bitterness in the finish to balance. There seems to be a bit of stickiness to the bitter finish, but it's mild not to mention that the bitterness itself is mild so I still like this beer. It sort of reminds me of Shiner Bock, but with more flavor, less bitterness and much milder carbonation, so I'm probably insulting San Miguel Dark Lager with that comparison, but nevertheless it's what comes to mind. The only real downfall for me for this beer is that there are plenty of other similar but better beers out there when I'm in the mood for some dark malt beer action. (Fuller Beers, Richer Beers, e.t.c.) But, maybe in the summer, when I often crave beers that tend to be a little thinner, San Miguel Dark Lager can work it's way back into my fridge. |
