Santa Fe Happy Camper IPA
|
This American IPA has a very nice mouth-feel. The flavor is smooth and so actually has good drinkability. I suppose my complaint would be the flavor actually seems muted. The hops in particular, although bitter, don't have a lot of other 'hoppiness' besides the bitterness. The bitterness by the way, isn't so bad that it hurts this beer's drinkability, it's just that personally, I'd prefer hop flavor to hop bitterness. There is also some caramel malt flavor here as well and interesting in that you can still taste it through the finish, in other words, hop flavor/bitterness doesn't totally wash it away. I actually liked that part, although I find it unusual in an American IPA. All in all, I did like this beer, and in a way, probably liked it a little higher than I rated it, but punished it rightly or wrongly for being a bit too muted in regards to flavor. As mentioned above mouth-feel was great though.
