Ska True Blonde Ale
|
This American Blonde Ale is interesting. For a blonde ale it has a full mouth-feel, it's actually similar to a Belgian beer in my opinion. The flavor also seems to be rich, and I'd even say it tastes roughly similar to a Belgian beer, like Duvel. Saying that, you would think that I Ioved it, but somehow, ... not so much. The carbonation is a bit too prickly for me and the flavor has a slight mustiness to it. Some beers can pull that off, but blonde ales seem to suffer when even a little mustiness appears, at least for me. The flavor actually runs the gamut from some sweet grainy maltiness, some fruitiness with what seems like a little spice and a dry finish. It's actually a decent little beer, but I don't think it's one your average Coors Light drinker will like. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just saying because a lot of American Blonde Ales can be used to introduce others to craft beer but I don't think Ska Blonde Ale is a good choice for that. Come to think of it, this tastes almost like an American Blonde Ale that has been mixed with Duvel. I'm glad I've tried it (I've actually had this at the Ska Brewery as well) and it is interesting, but ultimately, I don't think it will be something I seek out. |
