St. Peter's English Ale
|
This English Pale Ale was very smooth. The most prominent flavor was the hops which were sour with citrus and a little earthy. Although I say sour, it was a good sour. Even though hops dominate, this brew is not too bitter. The whole beer is understated, especially so on the malt side of things, however it was nice. I certainly don't need a beer to punch me in the face with flavor all the time. I think I could session the hell out of this beer with its smooth subtle flavors even though it highlights hops instead of malt. (I'm a malt dog, so if you're a hop head, your mileage may vary.) It's interesting to me how these English Pale Ales tend to skew in an earthy direction, whereas American Pale Ales tend to go piney or grapefruity. The mouth-feel was medium with low carbonation. I definitely liked it, but can't see me getting it again except maybe as a change of pace kind of beer. (Just in case you can't read it; on the label, under 'St Peter's English Ale' it says, 'Organically Grown Hops & Barley')
