St. Sebastiaan Grand Reserve

Woefully under-carbonated and almost flavorless are the first things that come to mind upon drinking this Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Besides the mild alcohol burn, other flavors are so light they are hard to actually pick out, something slightly sweet, possibly slightly fruity, maybe a little spice. But really, everything is very subdued, I'm a big fan of subtle beers, but this is way too subtle. I think the mouth-feel would be O.K., if there was some carbonation, but the carbonation is so low, that it leads to a kind of watery and slick mouth-feel. This beer escapes a rating of 1 only because I really don't taste anything offensive, it's dominated by alcohol, but even that seems subdued. |
