This may actually be the best American IPA I've had so far (July 2010). The first thing that really stands out to me about this beer is the tremendous mouth-feel. It's full and velvety; I think it's probably perfect. The next thing that I enjoy is the fact that it remains incredibly smooth despite it's bitterness (it is an American IPA so bitterness is to be expected). Although bitter, the bitterness brings with it some grapefruit citrus flavor and maybe a little pine, but it's really smoothly done and at the same time rich with those flavors. Even though those flavors are rich they don't completely overrun the beer to the point where it reminds me more of grapefruit juice than beer. Although malt flavors don't really show through, you can definitely feel its presence, this isn't some thin watery hop bomb, its fully flavored, rich in both mouth-feel and taste. Honestly, this beer probably deserves an even higher rating than I gave it, but hey I'm not a hop head, IPA's just aren't my thing, but damn this is good stuff.
