Summit Horizon Red Ale
|
This American Amber Ale has a fairly standard flavor for the style. Having said that, it sort of makes it sound like an insult or a bad thing, but really isn't meant that way. It tastes similar to many other main stream examples of the style like Fat Tire. Horizon Red, may be a bit thinner than Fat Tire and skews a tad dry. But otherwise has the characteristic caramel malt flavor as well as those rather pronounced American hops that so many of these American Amber Ales share. Horizon Red Ale does appear to have balance which I like, but somehow for me, despite that, this beer doesn't seem to flow as smoothly as it could from malt to hops. Don't get me wrong, this is a good beer, in fact the only reason I may choose Fat Tire over Horizon Red is due to Horizon's slightly thinner mouth-feel. So, I suppose I would prefer it to be a little richer in both mouth-feel and flavor, but that being said, it is a tasty little example of an American Amber Ale.
