Tommyknocker Butthead Doppelbock
|
Tommyknocker Butthead Doppelbock is a Doppelbock. However, it is definitely a lighter Doppelbock than it's German cousins. (Not that there is anything wrong with that). It still has that Doppelbock character. Caramel malts definitely predominate the flavor, I think the fact that it is lighter than other Doppelbocks actually makes it smoother than most other Doppelbocks. The mouth-feel was full, but somehow I felt the flavor should have been richer. That being said, it's possible that added richness could have led to a brew that was less smooth, and I did love this beer's smoothness. I would say it's sessionable, but at 8.2% alcohol, that would not be wise. But, really the alcohol is pretty well hidden when it comes to taste, although by the time I get to the end of a bottle, I can definitely feel that it is there. In the end I feel it is a straight forward brew that is really rather uncomplex, but I'm not one that believes a beer has to be complex to be good.
