Wasatch Summerbrau Lager
|
I'm already revisiting this review as although there is little change to my enjoyment of this beverage, subsequent bottles haven't been nearly as American Macro like as my first review suggested, so I've tamed this one down a bit. I didn't recognize this as a Czech Pilsener while drinking it. It was sweeter and hoppier than your Average American Macro Lager. The mouth-feel was medium skewing thin while the carbonation was medium so, also, very American Macro Lager like. I think the watery macro-like mouth-feel may be what doomed this for me, as I think the wateriness diluted the flavor as well. It's a bit hard to describe but for me there is a big difference in say, tasting the flavor of hops as opposed to just the bitterness of hops and likewise tasting the flavor of malt as opposed to just the sweetness of malt. This beer basically gave me sweetness and bitterness, but man compared to a lot of other brews out there, that just isn't enough for me. And I must say those Germanic styles are something I really love, like Czech Pilseners, Munich Helles Lagers and German Pilseners, and so this really disappointed me. (Although in defense of Wasatch, it seems few American Brewers can really nail those styles. I don't know why.)
