Day 18 Flash Installed

Generally I despise sites that use Flash, so I haven't rushed to install it.  On May 11th I wanted to check out a site that required it (http://www.theworld.ae), so I decided to finally install Flash.  The website had a link that said something to the effect of "Click here to get Flash", so I did.  The site that came up correctly diagnosed that I needed a Linux build and gave instructions for installing it.  I thought, this is probably a bad idea, I should use Ubuntu's own Synaptic to download Flash.  However, I decided that since I was doing this Ubuntu Diary, I should go ahead and follow these website directions to install Flash to see how it goes.

The first part of the directions said I had to download a .tar.gz file, then extract it.  I downloaded it just fine, but when I clicked the file to extract, I received a "Failed to extract files" message.  So, I was unable to extract the file(s), and thus unable to install Flash via the website instructions.  (I won't bother recounting the rest of the instructions because once I was unable to extract the files in the .tar.gz, the rest of the instructions became moot.)

So, I decided to attempt to install Flash via Synaptic.  I clicked Applications, Add/Remove then filtered for Internet apps.  Strangely, Flash was not there.  I couldn't believe that Flash would not be included in Ubuntu's repositories, so I decided to un-filter and look at all apps, which is how I found it.... Macromedia Flash Plugin.  I checked it, clicked Apply changes, and I now have Flash.
