Day 48 Freezing - Hardware Related?

While using Firefox 3 to open Slashdot.org my computer froze, but it somehow recovered before I rebooted.

Later, still using Firefox 3, I clicked on a link, and once again I got a total freeze and had to reboot.  This time though, it did not reboot successfully, it would stick while the bios screen was displaying 'connecting to ide devices' (or something to that effect).  I turned it off again, and rebooted again, and again it froze while still displaying the bios screen.  This happened approximately 7 more times before I was able to boot successfully back into Ubuntu.

Since the boot up was failing during the bios screens, I'm now wondering if there is not a hardware problem with this computer that is causing the Freezes that I have written about.

At any rate, since the one thing all the Freezes have had in common is that I've at least had Firefox 3 open at the time, I decided to install Firefox 2 and use it from now on.  (At least that's the plan.)
